Youth

youth

Here are all the details of what takes place for our young people & some links to stuff we're part of across Cambridge.

Sundays

Y2
Y2 is for young people in year 7+ & meets during the morning service. We follow the same themes as the adults, but in ways that are much more appropriate for young people. Through creative approaches to exploring the Bible, engaging with real issues & spending time drawing close to God, Y2 aims for us to go deeper in our relationship with God, & be equipped to live as disciples in our schools, homes & with our friends.

Once a month, we join with the adults to celebrate communion, which gives us a great chance to feel part of the life of the church as a whole.

You can expect Lizzi Mills, Benj Shuler, Tom Donaldson & Emily Buckland leading Y2.

Y3
Y3 (5.30-7pm)
Most of our older young people come to the evening service on a Sunday. For those that come, we’ve met together beforehand to have a bit of space together as young people, to explore significant faith questions, & have something to eat before the service starts.

This term, Y3 will be taking a breather as we head of to Starbucks café for the now infamous Exploration Station. This is a 5 week introduction to the Christian faith, that St Barnabas youth have gone to on mass, often taking friends along.

When the 5 weeks are up, Y3 will become Barnies Exploration Station. This will be a chance for us to continue exploring the Christian faith with our friends, but in a slightly smaller group, aiming to delve into some of the really challenging questions we & our friends have.

Barnies Exploration Station Weekend Away
Following on from Exploration Station & BES, we’re planning a Weekend Away. A chance for us to bring our friends to a cracking weekend in the depths of Norfolk for much hilarity, friendship & faith exploration.

The dates of the weekend are Friday 27th-Sunday 29th November.

Wednesdays

Most of the barnies youth stuff happens on a Wednesday night. For our older youth (year 10+) it can be a little complicated as we follow the pattern of the rest of the church, alternating between home group & cluster. Here’s a few details about each of the groups, who they’re for & where they meet.

Y28
Y28 - Wednesdays 6.30-8pm - 109 Cherry Hinton Road
This is a weekly youth group for anyone in years 7-9. You can expect games to get to grips with God, scripture to inspire your spirit, creativity that makes you go wow & so much more. While the group will be helping us to grow in our faith, there will also be a massive social side of what we do together, with great food, activities & loads of wacky stuff that you’ll love doing , particularly with all the friends you’ll meet & bring along.

Jim & Hannah Overton are the wonderful hosts, & love making people feel at home & planning crazy games to play. They’ll be supported by Becky Iles who will make a great team who you’ll love to get to know.

Y38
Y38 - Wednesdays 6.45-8.15pm - 520 Coldhams Lane
Y38 is youth home group for anyone in years 10 & 11. The heart of the group is to have a safe place to build friendships, explore faith, share life & support one another on our journeys as followers of Jesus. We have a desire to be real with one another, in the good & the bad, so we can support & encourage each other as we seek to grow in our faith.

Dave & Bev Monck are supported by Al North & Hannah Frecknall as they host the group, & as a team they are really excited about growing & deepening friendships with those part of the home group.

Y48 – Wednesdays 6.45-8.15pm Email for location
Y48 is a 6th form & beyond home group for anyone in years 12, 13 or recently left school. The aims include creating a space for returning students & recent school leavers to be included in the life of the church, getting to grips with some of the challenging questions of faith, making sense of a relationship with God in our day to day life, & building friendships that are real, lasting & significant.

Bill & Fiona Broadhurst are hosting with Lissie Bradbury, & long to make their home open & welcoming, helping all those who come to have space to bring their questions & be encouraged in their faith.

YC8
The Barn at St Barnabas - Wednesdays 6.45-8.45pm
Every other week, the older youth & adult home groups meet together as a youth & adult cluster. This gives us a chance to eat, worship, pray & generally just be together as the older youth of St Barnabas. We often make use of a full live band for our sung worship, & increasingly looking to give opportunities for our youth to explore & use their gifts. YC8 is also a great place to bring friends looking to find out a bit more about what goes on in St Barnabas.

Our leadership team includes Al Wood, Dave Monck, Lizzie Bradbury & Connie Taylor, so we can expect to be really encouraged in our faith.
